Experimental Animal Service Platform

Experimental Animal Service Platform

The Laboratory Animal Service Platform of the Shenzhen Institute of Translational Medicine is a comprehensive research institution dedicated to "research, service, teaching, and consultation" involving laboratory animals. The platform's mission is to lead with scientific research services, strengthen research in laboratory animal science, and continuously improve service quality. The platform successfully passed the on-site expert review by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology in November 2021, obtained the laboratory animal use permit, and officially began operations in December 2021.

The Laboratory Animal Service Platform is located on the 15th floor of Building 1, Yinxing Technology Park, covering approximately 1,400 square meters. It is mainly divided into barrier environment areas (SPF-grade small and large rodent breeding areas, experimental areas, and instrument rooms), general environment areas (general animal breeding areas, operation rooms, and surgery rooms), and auxiliary areas (washing and sterilization rooms, dissection rooms, temporary corpse storage rooms, warehouses, machine rooms, monitoring rooms, and office areas).

The laboratory animal facilities are constructed according to national standards, such as "GB14925-2010 Laboratory Animal Environment and Facilities" and "GB 50447-2008 Technical Specifications for the Construction of Laboratory Animal Facilities." The facility is divided into barrier environment and general environment animal areas. The barrier environment comprises 11 rooms dedicated to breeding rodents, with a maximum capacity of 2,898 mouse cages and 284 rat cages. The general environment includes one room each for breeding dogs, pigs, rabbits, and guinea pigs, with a maximum capacity of 18 dogs, 9 pigs, 60 cages of rabbits, and 36 cages of guinea pigs. The experimental area includes four general laboratories and one behavioral laboratory. The animal laboratories are equipped with a variety of equipment to meet basic animal experiment needs, including a small animal in vivo three-dimensional multimodal imaging system (3D-CT), biological safety cabinets, respirators, fiber optic surgical lights, surgical microscopes, ECG monitors, dissection tables, animal-specific surgical tables, shadowless lamps, laryngoscopes, and tracheal intubation tools.
