Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Urogenital Tumor System and Synthetic Biology
The Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Urogenital Tumor System and Synthetic Biology is an important open platform under the Shenzhen Institute of Translational Medicine (hereinafter referred to as the Translational Institute) for basic research, technological achievement transformation, high-level hospital construction, and discipline development across the city. Approved by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology in 2017, the laboratory relies on the Second People's Hospital of Shenzhen (First Affiliated Hospital of Shenzhen University).
The laboratory aims to construct a sample and clinical data repository for Chinese patients with urogenital system tumors, establish a technical platform and support system for basic research and translational medicine in urogenital system tumors, and utilize cutting-edge multi-omics research techniques to conduct fundamental research on the mechanisms of primary, recurrent, and metastatic urogenital system tumors and their early diagnosis. Simultaneously, it integrates the latest technologies in synthetic biology to design vectors for tumor-targeted identification and treatment and to translate research findings into clinical applications, achieving early diagnosis and personalized treatment for urogenital system tumors.
The office space, instruments, conference rooms, and other facilities of the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Urogenital Tumor System and Synthetic Biology are managed centrally by the provincial key laboratory director and the Translational Institute. Resources are shared and the facilities are open to clinical doctors, distinguished experts, part-time experts, full-time researchers, postdoctoral fellows, technicians, interns, and researchers engaged in basic, clinical, and translational research from both inside and outside the hospital, providing a high-quality and efficient platform and service.
The Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Urogenital Tumor System and Synthetic Biology has received funding for national, provincial, and municipal projects, including one national 973 project, one sub-project of the 973 program, three 863 projects, one international cooperation project from the Ministry of Science and Technology, 33 projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and over 70 provincial and municipal research projects, with approved research funding exceeding 100 million yuan.
To comply with Shenzhen's policy on the sharing of large scientific instruments and improve the utilization rate of public research platform equipment, the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Urogenital Tumor System and Synthetic Biology includes instruments and equipment valued at over 300,000 yuan in the "Large Instrument Sharing Platform of the Second People's Hospital of Shenzhen," allowing for reservation and shared access.
